Inspired by the European Union’s European Year for Active Aging and Solidarity between Generations
, World Café Europe is collaborating with both European and American experts in the field of Active Aging to initiate a comprehensive Active Aging Network of older adults in Europe. This collaboration will use a unique approach to develop a stakeholder-driven network led by and for older adults. With use of the participatory World Café dialogue process, groups of older adults from six European regions will share personal experiences about aging and generate ideas relevant to the start-up of an Active Aging network. These ideas will inform the design of a World Café European Gathering where participants will explore the next steps to initiate a pan-European Active Aging network.
The aim of this initiative is to develop a common understanding about the productivity and creative potential of age 50+ adults and propose collaborative strategies to reduce barriers to engagement, tap into wisdom and leadership experience, and support Active Aging. The resulting peer network, with an accompanying action plan, supporting materials and virtual presence, will serve as a vehicle to facilitate the sharing of strengths among older adults throughout Europe. The proposed path to realize this stakeholder-driven peer network is innovative in both its scope and process.
